The highest gas prices in the state as of 3:15 Sunday afternoon are anywhere from $4.49 to $4.69 per gallon, and anywhere from Carbondale to Mattoon to Sycamore.
The State Police need to be ordered by the Governor to be pulled out of their speed traps and sent to these stations immediately and start questioning [...]

Standing O, The Encore (Or: Billy Nails It Again)
April 13th, 2008 · 3 Comments
Billy Dennis wrote this:
I don’t know whether or not Ali al-Marri is a terrorist or an enemy combatant or not. Some of the evidence the U.S. government says it has against the guy is pretty damning. But I know one thing: The United States is a nation that should operate under the rule or law. [...]

I Wouldn’t Be Bragging About It

A headline today from AFP declares:
US says captured papers reveal Qaeda in Iraq weakened
The story tells how Al-Qaeda forces in Iraq are shrinking. Â
Of course, there’s no mention of the fact that Al-Qaeda wasn’t even in Iraq until sometime after March, 2003. But why quibble with historical fact when there’s a dog to be wagged.

Soldier Convicted, But It Looks Like He Had Help
February 10th, 2008 · No Comments
Another U.S. soldier was convicted today of murdering an unarmed Iraqi. The most disturbing parts of the story to me were this:
Vela’s trial was the last of three snipers in the unit accused in a series of shooting deaths south of Baghdad that defense lawyers said happened under command pressure to increase kill counts and, perhaps, [...]

My 2008 Budget
February 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments
I’ve completed my proposed 2008 budget for the radio stations. I’ve taken cues from our current “leadership” (wow, is THAT term used loosely here) to complete it. Here it is:
1. I’m increasing the external advertising (read: “defense“) by a couple hundred thousand. (Actually, advertising is “offense”, but that’s the way our administration has treated our military [...]

Um…Duh.

The winner of the 2008 “Captain Obvious” award has already been determined…three weeks into the year. Congrats to the champion, this report:
False Statements Preceded WarÂ
The first two paragraphs of the APÂ story:Â
WASHINGTON – A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national [...]

Turd Blossom Is Active, Bet On It
January 17th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Seems some South Carolina Republicans received Christmas cards from Mitt Romney (for those who have been in a cave this past year, Mr. Romney is the Mormon candidate for President), saying they came from “The Boston Massachusetts Temple” and quoting some controversial passages from the Book of Mormon.    Â
Why would someone do this? To get the evangelical [...]

More Evidence of “Booming” Economy…Not
January 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments
I am still a tad miffed about the whole “booming economy” discussion a couple of weeks back on Billy’s Blog, on a post originally written by Anon E. Mouse.
While visiting Iowa and my kid this weekend, I grabbed a couple of local papers (Waterloo Courier/Dubuque Telegraph-Herald) while traveling. Saturday’s Courier reported that Iowa’s poverty level is [...]

I Issue A Signing Statement
January 14th, 2008 · No Comments
In the wake of the Worst President Ever’s latest flaunting of U.S. Law (Mexican trucks continue to roll unimpeded over the border, despite a law passed to the contrary), it’s time average Joe’s like you and me got to issue “Signing Statements” on laws we’re simply going to ignore.
So, as of tonight, I’m not even [...]

Even They Don’t Think The Economy Is Good
January 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Just got home, turned on CNN to see how New Hampster’s primary is going, and the first thing I see in “The Situation Room” (that name is hokey and hilarious, btw) is the results of a poll about our “BOOMING Economy” (David Jordan’s words, not mine).
87% of Dems think the economy is weak. No surprise [...]

Minnesota Republicans Say Out Loud What Other Republicans Won’t Admit
January 2nd, 2008 · 7 Comments
“We’ve had five years of the No Child Left Behind regime, and I think it’s safe to call it a failure now. We’re giving it an F and trying to take back our schools.”
So says Minnesota Republican Senator Geoff Michel of Edina. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports on efforts to pull out of this ridiculous program. [...]

Was This Letter Supposed To Be Serious Or A Joke?
September 23rd, 2007 · No Comments
I hope it was the latter.
I spit Dr. Pepper when I read this in the PJS today. If it’s a serious letter, I feel very bad for the writer, I really do.
I also got a kick out of this comment among those following the letter:
Don’t let these left leaning America haters get you down. Continue on with [...]

Overhead Between Bush and Cheney Today: “Oops. Didn’t Play That Right.”
September 12th, 2007 · No Comments
Gotta love it. Nothing but hardball from Sen. Warner, Sen. Hagel, Sen. Coleman, and Sen. Lugar, all GOP’ers, today, at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting with General Patreaus.  If the Bush administration was expecting “toe the line” partisanship…um, well…no. Wrong again.
It’s certainly a case of too little, too late for many of these Repubs, who [...]

And no, that’s not a new way to get to work in downtown Peoria.
Let me try to describe the situation here:
“The Law” is on this side—————————Over here, it’s “George W. Bush”.
See the space in between? It’s there because “ne’er the twain shall meet.”

…And The Award For “Least Surprising Headline of All Time” Goes To…
June 23rd, 2007 · No Comments
…the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, for this little gem today:
 White House Defends Cheney
Of course they do. This guy could murder someone in cold blood during a press conference, and the rest of “the White House” would defend him and say he didn’t do it.
In this case, he didn’t murder anyone, or even shoot anybody in the face, [...]

Some of Mr. Putin’s comments:
Â
“There is a clear desire by some international players to dictate their will to everyone without adhering to international law,” Putin said. “International law has been replaced by political reasons.”
“In our opinion it is nothing different from diktat, nothing different from imperialism,” he added.

I Plagierize a Good Marketing Campaign

Let me give it a shot:
Fumbling the bin Laden search.
Lying to the country to get us into Iraq.
Ignoring the Geneva Convention.
Creating a Civil War in Iraq.
Sending thousands of young Americans to their death, and leaving tens of thousands more disabled and disfigured for life, all over a bunch of lies and deceptions.
Losing credibility for our [...]
