A Good Year for the Outlaw

There’s Lies, Damn Lies, And Then There’s Sean Hannity

What color is the sky in Sean Hannity’s world? (I know, I know, it’s pretty much already been established that he’s f’en nuts.) I subscribed to his “newsletter” recently, for a couple of daily yuks while I’m getting ready for the day. And Sean doesn’t disappoint. But this week he has gone beyond simple yuks, this week he’s just full of out and out lies and opinions that he has that his own party and his own ilk don’t even share. He’s out-Levining Levin, he’s out Savaging Savage. He’s become the joke of ALL of the media, not just talk radio.

For instance, yesterday, he had Karl Rove on his show, and he (Hannity) was blasting away at President Obama regarding the pictures of our soldiers abusing terrorist detainees, saying “Obama wants these pictures released”. Even Rove…Karl Rove…tried to stop Sean in his tracks and said “it’s the Democratic congress that’s pushing for the release of these photos, which is a direct slap in the face of President Obama, who DOESN’T want to release the photos.” Here are two links to back up what Rove said.

But lo and behold, here’s a quote from Hannity’s email newsletter this morning, AFTER Rove tried to steer Hannity towards the truth:

President Obama wants to release the photos to “close the books” on the Bush-era interrogation practices that he doesn’t support (even though these same techniques prevented a 9/11 like attack in Los Angeles).

Um, hello? Sean, that’s a lie. A flat out lie. And let’s not even get into his little opinion (and that’s all it is) that these “techniques” saved Los Angeles. Has anybody ever heard anything about this? I know I haven’t.

Amazing.

Another laughable Hannity moment this week was when the headline of his newsletter yelled “It’s Time For Bold Differences!” In other words, to hell with coming together as a country (wasn’t the last guy supposed to be a “uniter” and not a “divider”…but I digress), Sean wants “bold differences”, which after you read his stuff really means “it’s my way or the highway”. On his show the other day, he said that “I still say George W. Bush will go down as a great President”, and then the very next day in his newsletter he said this:

In the wake of the White House’s press conference defending stimulus spending, Sean is calling for moderate republicans to step out of the way and let fiscal conservatives save our economy.

You mean “fiscal conservatives” like your so-called “great President” Bush? My god, this has to be the single most idiotic thing Sean Hannity has ever said. And I remind him again…when did the economy go south, and who approved the first “bailout” funds? Oh, yeah, the Great One. Right.

One of my salesman here at work, the ever-wise Bill, is a true fiscal conservative. Here are a couple of his thoughts this week:

Bill quote #1: I wonder how much the deficit would really be if we hadn’t cut taxes eight years ago.

Bill quote #2: As a fiscal conservative, I’m more in interested in balancing the budget than cutting taxes.

Keep in mind, Bill voted for Bush twice (and admits the second one was a huge mistake, but adds, “what choice did I have?” as he would have never voted for John Kerry.

Bill, and lot of conservatives just like him, has had it with the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin, and Savage. “They don’t speak for me at all,” is what he says. He is one of those conservatives who know what it’s going to take to get the GOP back into some semblance of power. It’s got me thinking…maybe I should give my man Bill his own radio show so he can get started on straightening out the GOP.

This might surprise you but, even though I often agree with the kernel of their arguments, I find Hannity needlessly abrasive and often unhelpful to the conservative cause. This is why I haven’t watched him for a long time. Same goes for a lot of “conservative” pundits.
