EXILE [eg-zahyl, ek-sahyl]
–noun 1. expulsion from one’s native land by authoritative decree.
2. the fact or state of such expulsion: to live in exile.
3. a person banished from his or her native land.
4. prolonged separation from one’s country or home, as by force of circumstances: wartime exile.
Since the election, Sean Hannity has repeatedly said he’s “a conservative in exile”. The above definition of exile shows what the educated among us already knew: Sean Hannity is full of shit. Of course, that’s no surprise to most of us.
I did have to laugh during his show tonight, however, and it had nothing directly to do with Sean. He took a call from San Francisco and said, “to San Francisco, KSFO, Live and Local”. He was meaning to give the radio station a plug, using their own slugline, “live and local”. But wait, Sean Hannity is a nationally syndicated talk show host on the East Coast.
Of course, KSFO also carries Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, George Noory, and many other syndicated national shows. Far from local. KSFO’s competitor, KGO, specializes in trying to stay local ALL the time, with hosts in The City and not everywhere else. But KSFO tries to use the “live and local” line. Or at least, they used to. They now just say “Hot Talk 560, KSFO”. Why? Um, maybe because people aren’t as stupid as the management of that station thought? I hate when stations do that. And it happens everywhere, even close to home. Listen close sometime and see what examples you can come up with of pretty bogus statements.

Here is why they feel like they are in “exile”: for too long, they have controlled the labels and the debate. Even President Clinton felt obligated to make overtures toward the social conservatives.
President Obama feels no such obligation.
For so long, the conservatives got to decide what was moral, patriotic, etc. At long last, they have lost their privileged position and they are unable to deal with it.
Think of toddlers who are finally told “no”.

It’s the one thing people like Hannity, and the former employer you and I share, all have in common, BJ: they never let facts get in the way of a good story.

Ollie – good observation, spot on.
Will – Now there you go ruining what was a good day by bringing up that little hypocritical blowhard and putting those thoughts in my head. Ugh.
