Abundant Sunshine?

While checking the Weather Channel one last time this morning before hitting the road, the computer generated voice told me we would have “abundant sunshine” today.

Huh? What happened to “sunny” or “mostly sunny”? Abundant? That sounded to me like the sun was going to be extra generous and send out more rays of itself today. Golly gee, isn’t that nice? But there was just something about “abundant sunshine” that struck me wrong.

Like my comedic hero, George Carlin, I hate it when the vernacular changes on something for no apparent reason. More on that coming up in a future rant.

That reminds me of an idiotic word switcheroo the local weathermen were using when I was a kid in the 70’s. Instead of saying “chance of precipitation” they said “precip probability”. Even as a pre-teen, it struck me as stupid.
