Heard Newt Gingrich on the Today Show this morning putting himself and the GOP on the spot.
Matt Lauer first made Newt clarify his most recent Gingrich Letter, a column of commentary on President Obama’s first 100 days. Towards the end of the letter, Gingrich wrote this:
Going forward, it won’t be possible to continue [...]

Where Have All The Instrumentals Gone?
April 22nd, 2009 · 3 Comments
I was scheduling a couple of music logs here this morning, and I come across “Frankenstein” by the Edgar Winter Group and “Jessica” from the Allman Brothers Band, and I’m thinking to myself: Does any radio station that specializes in current music play any instrumentals anymore. And further, does anybody MAKE instrumental records anymore that [...]

Texas Governor Rick…As In Dick…Perry: Treasonist?
April 19th, 2009 · 1 Comment
I don’t know if Gov. Dick is a treasonist, or not, I mean this story only calls him “grossly irresponsible” and “ripe for impeachment” after his recent empathy for those idiots who think Texas can secede from the union.
For the record, they can’t, according to their own state constitution. But that doesn’t stop [...]
Exxon Mobil? Rich? Nah
April 19th, 2009 · 1 Comment
Hey, big congrats (snark) to Exxon Mobil for surpassing Wal Mart atop the Fortune 500 this year.
Scariest fact of all? Exxon Mobil’s PROFITS of 45.2 billion dollars would place them around 150 on the list of REVENUES. Sickening. Absolutely sickening.
Oh, by the way, Number 2 on the “profits” list? Chevron, at 23.93 billion dollars. [...]

Bulls Knew The Score
April 16th, 2009 · No Comments
One more sports story while I’m on the topic:
Everyone was lamenting the “flat” Bulls performance last night in their regular season ender against Toronto. The players even put on a convincing show afterwards. But folks, these guys aren’t stupid. They tossed that game in the tank early, and they SHOULD have.
A win would have [...]

Ending An Argument Right Here
April 16th, 2009 · No Comments
While catching some sports talk out of Chicago Wednesday evening on my drive home, I happened across what was actually a live and thought provoking discussion on WGN’s evening sports show.
(NOTE TO “The Score”: The freakin’ Bears don’t play a meaningful game until September. I DON’T want to hear Bears talk right now. Well, [...]

Go Hawks!
April 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments
What an unbelievable turnaround in just two short seasons in Chicago for the Blackhawk franchise. Sad to say, it’s now COMPLETELY obvious how much Bill Wirtz was holding back this club.
In just two short years since Rocky Wirtz took over for his dad, and made perfect hire after perfect hire, the ‘hawks are again [...]

Nellie’s Out At The Baby Cell

Received this from Bryan Bloodworth and the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington today:
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – John Y. Butler, president of Central Illinois Arena
Management Inc., announced Friday that he has purchased the shares of CIAM from former business partner and co-owner Mike Nelson. The acquisition, which closed Friday, gives Butler sole ownership of the management company, [...]

“Tarp Bails Out Sox”
April 12th, 2009 · 2 Comments
That should be the headline in at least one Chicago paper, a Minneapolis-St.Paul paper or two, and the USA Today come Monday.
Jim Thome’s sixth inning pop foul in a 1-1 tie against Minnesota Sunday afternoon landed on the rolled up tarp behind third base, with Twins third baseman Joe Crede coming up one step [...]

Less News Reporting Being Done In Evansville
April 7th, 2009 · 2 Comments
Regent Broadcasting (owners of clusters of stations in both Peoria and Bloomington eliminated their news department at their Evansville cluster last Friday.
This shouldn’t affect the Peoria stations at all…because they don’t even have a news department to begin with. But Regent owns WJBC in Bloomington, that city’s only radio news department. Could it affect [...]

Latest Cat Layoffs Hit A Buddy
April 7th, 2009 · 1 Comment
One of the 175 UAW workers that found out yesterday he’s being laid off this week at Cat-Mapleton is one of my best buddies. We were chatting online last night and he told me the news, the closest I’ve been to the layoffs at Cat. You know it’s going on, and you feel for all [...]

Here’s Why The Right Aggravates Us
April 3rd, 2009 · 7 Comments
I recently sent my uncle, a hard-line Republican, and the other right-wingers on his email list, a link to a Washington Post opinion column penned by Billy Wharton, the editor of Socialist Magazine.
My original email said this:
“…Dislike the man and his policies all you want, I’m pretty frustrated with some of those policies [...]

Abundant Sunshine?
April 3rd, 2009 · 1 Comment
While checking the Weather Channel one last time this morning before hitting the road, the computer generated voice told me we would have “abundant sunshine” today.
Huh? What happened to “sunny” or “mostly sunny”? Abundant? That sounded to me like the sun was going to be extra generous and send out more rays of itself [...]

Bears Fans Wetting Selves, Depends Sales Up
April 2nd, 2009 · 1 Comment
Jay Cutler is now a Bear. Talk show hosts and callers all over Illinois are sitting in their soaked plain white BVD’s (except for the typical Bear fan’s Larry-The-Cable-Guy-style-racing-stripe in his underbritches) over the deal. Denver’s new coach, in what looks to the be the move that seals his fate as a short-timer in Denver, [...]
