After looking at the atrocities below, I thought I’d better post some pictures of actual GOOD looking vehicles to cure the nausea of seeing Toyotas:
There. I feel better now.

What, no Alfa Romeo C8 Competizione, DeTomaso Pantera, Lamborghini Miura, or Ferrari 612?

I didn’t have room for all the good looking cars, so I just went with the ones that I feel I might…just might…be able to afford in my lifetime, although the Viper and M6 are still way too far out there for my financial situation.
BTW, two of the cars pictured can be had for less than 30 grand…anyone want to guess which two?

The Solstice and the G8. Both Pontiacs.

BTW, the G8 has been sold for years in Australia as the Holden Commodore.

Yep and yep…and yep on the Commodore. The 2004-2006 GTO was also an Aussie model, the old Monaro. Expectations were high, performance was awesome, but looks were bland and disappointing (and not retro enough) to wear the GTO badge. Too bad.
It had great potential, but looked like a Cavalier that had visited a major league baseball locker room (i.e. “steroids” in the system). It just didn’t look “Goat” enough.

The new GTO is definitely a bit blah. If you don’t know what it is, there’s really no way to know unless you roll down the window and listen. Dodge has done a much better job bringing back their muscle car monikers than Pontiac. I think Pontiac cursed themselves when they turned the Le Mans into a hatchback POS subcompact after the fuel crisis.

That G8 does look tasty. I might have to put one in my driveway. 361hp and rwd in a smaller car. Yum.

I’m seriously considering buying a G6 GTP 2-door that’s up at Bob Lindsay when I get home.

MM – You’re exactly right, Dodge has done a better job with the combination of retro and modern than Pontiac has done with it’s combination of…well…Chevy and boring. (Those two words go together quite often, too, btw).
The G6 looks a little funny to me…rear wheels are set too far back, makes it look as though they were an afterthought in the design.
Vonster – The G8 does a nice job of looking like a smaller car, but with a 116″ wheelbase it’s only four inches shorter than the Dodge Charger, and it’s also something like only 4 or 5 inches shorter overall. I thought it was going to be a smaller-type sedan, but it’s actually pretty big. The wheelbase is even longer than the 90’s Bonnevilles, and they’re pretty large cars.
But I have no problem with the looks and size of either the Charger or the G8.

I was in South Florida this weekend, and I was fortunate enough to see three Mercedes CLS 550’s, 1 Lamborghini Murcielago (pictures of which will be posted on my Flickr page very soon), 2 Bentley Continental GT’s, a Rolls Royce of some sort, and a Carrera 4S.

Correction…One Continental GT, one Continental GTC.

Where are the Benz’s above? And, really, you cannot compare low end Toyotas and Hondas with high end GMs and Fords. If you want to do that throw in a Lexus (High End Toyota) there or a Supra, why not an Acura NSX then we are talking. Once upon a time there were American Muscle but not any more!! These are times of fine engineering and smart fuel consumption.
If Toyota did not produce nice cars then it would not be ahead of GM globally on car sales. Doesn’t that tell you anything?

Wow, That Challenger is one absolutely gorgeous car. Now that’s one I’d certainly have a wide grin driving around town in. And that Mustang, I have to admit, after the 80’s Mustang fiasco, I think Ford has finally found the right look again. Thank “Gone In Sixty Second”!

An interesting view of the automotive industry. Where do you see the future of the industry, will it ever recover or will there be major casulties?
