A Good Year for the Outlaw

I Just Threw Up A Little Bit

A few months back, I posted over a period of time the 10 Ugliest Vehicles, in my estimation, on the road today.

Toyota, the most overrated company of any kind anywhere on the planet, was featured prominently on the list. If a Toyota is not boring, it’s ugly. They have those two categories sewed up.

So tonight I’m looking at the Chicago Auto Show website and I see this:

…and I got the same feeling you get when you realize you’ve just stepped in fresh doggy doo. What is wrong with these people? This is the Toyota A-Bat (the name is as stupid as the vehicle is fugly), a concept “pickup” they’re showing at auto shows this year. From the waistline down (about midway up the doors), it’s fine, but above that, it looks like somebody accidently folded the original drawing and the designers thought that was how it was supposed to look.

These guys put out the worst crap on the roads today – and don’t tell me about their “quality”, because it isn’t one damn bit better than several other companies making cars today. Period.

I’d take an Aztek over ANYTHING Toyota has out there today, ANYTHING Honda has out today, or anything any other maker of ugly, boring crap there is out there today. In 10 years, the Aztek will prove to have been ahead of it’s time by becoming one of the most attractive vehicles left if Toyota keeps heading in the direction they’re going.

Yes, that is an AWFUL looking vehicle.
I must say, I’m unsure about “modern” toyotas, but my 1996 Rav4 is wonderful! 180,000 miles and the biggest repair has been a new muffler…

…is it just me, or does it look like they’ve stretched the body of a compact over the frame of a small pickup?

I recently had the opportunity to visit with a Toyota representative from Japan who was spending a year here in the States visiting dealerships. He said that the biggest concern with Toyota Japan was the way our dealers treat customers who come in for srvice on their vehicles. He said that the main concern with our guys was that they were more interested with quantiy rather than quality of service. The question with them is not how best may I serve you, but rather how much can I serve you. toyota is a great car, best in the country.
