In the past few days, every time…EVERY time…I’ve turned on a sportstalk radio station, be it in Chicago, Peoria, the Quad Cities, or New York or Minneapolis via internet for that matter, the discussion is the same.
Are they talking Spring Training baseball, a very exciting time for all teams? Nope.
Are the talking about the stretch [...]

What Is Their Excuse THIS Time?
February 21st, 2008 · 9 Comments
Gas was $2.95 per gallon at noon yesterday (87 octane unleaded, in Canton). It was $3.19 five hours later.
What the hell?!?!?!
A 25 cent per gallon increase…what is the given excuse this time? The explosion at a refinery? A refinery that, btw, produces 70,000 barrels per day?
70,000 barrels per day. How big is that? Well, a [...]

How Does THIS Turn Into Partisan Politics?
February 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Anyone with 1/2 of 1/3 of 1/10th of a brain has his doubts the honesty of Roger Clemens after hearing his wild, rambling, disjointed stories being told yesterday in the Congressional Hearings.
So how in hell did the hearings turn into partisan politics? Every GOP member of the committee rushed to Clemens’ defense – inexplicably – [...]

So, Ann, When Do You Join The Clinton Campaign?
February 15th, 2008 · 3 Comments
Now that John McCain has secured enough delegates to lock Mike “I Didn’t Major In Math” Huckabee out of the GOP presidential race, Ann…or should I say Stan…Coulter is supposed to be campaigning for Hillary Clinton.

NAZICAR vs. WWE
February 15th, 2008 · No Comments
When it comes to sports entertainment, I’m going back to watching the WWE over NAZICAR.
Why?
Because the WWE is less scripted.
Consumer Reports: Let Me Bend Over So You Can…
February 14th, 2008 · No Comments
Consumer Reports…Consumer Reports!…is terribly upset at Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter Miley for appearing on film not wearing seat belts in a moving vehicle. Now, something like this I’d expect from “Focus On The Family” or some other “we’re going to tell everyone how to live or else” type organization like that, but Consumer [...]

Go Beyond The Smears And Lies
February 11th, 2008 · 10 Comments
CJ Summers feels the same way I do about some bogus emails making the rounds.
I got that very email from my aunt in Minnesota a few weeks back, and answered with some links disproving the email. Sadly, I got back not one, but TWO ridiculous responses from other recipients of the original email.
One said, “…it [...]

I Just Threw Up A Little Bit
February 10th, 2008 · 6 Comments
A few months back, I posted over a period of time the 10 Ugliest Vehicles, in my estimation, on the road today.
Toyota, the most overrated company of any kind anywhere on the planet, was featured prominently on the list. If a Toyota is not boring, it’s ugly. They have those two categories sewed up.
So tonight [...]

I Wouldn’t Be Bragging About It

A headline today from AFP declares:
US says captured papers reveal Qaeda in Iraq weakened
The story tells how Al-Qaeda forces in Iraq are shrinking. Â
Of course, there’s no mention of the fact that Al-Qaeda wasn’t even in Iraq until sometime after March, 2003. But why quibble with historical fact when there’s a dog to be wagged.

Soldier Convicted, But It Looks Like He Had Help
February 10th, 2008 · No Comments
Another U.S. soldier was convicted today of murdering an unarmed Iraqi. The most disturbing parts of the story to me were this:
Vela’s trial was the last of three snipers in the unit accused in a series of shooting deaths south of Baghdad that defense lawyers said happened under command pressure to increase kill counts and, perhaps, [...]

It’s “pleaded”, not “pled”.
February 9th, 2008 · 19 Comments
I heard Tazewell County State’s Attorney Stu Umholtz use “pled” in a soundbite on WMBD news the other morning, and to me it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard.
I’ve talked about it before, but “pleaded” is the proper term. “Pled” has now crept into “accepted” vernacular not because it’s correct, but simply because it’s used all [...]

My 2008 Budget
February 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments
I’ve completed my proposed 2008 budget for the radio stations. I’ve taken cues from our current “leadership” (wow, is THAT term used loosely here) to complete it. Here it is:
1. I’m increasing the external advertising (read: “defense“) by a couple hundred thousand. (Actually, advertising is “offense”, but that’s the way our administration has treated our military [...]

My prediction: That will be the date (gotta give the new prez a couple of days to acclimate) on which the rank and file of the GOP will denounce “waterboarding” as “torture” and wonder why the president isn’t doing anything about it.

Wave Those Flags, Dudes!
February 3rd, 2008 · 5 Comments
Super Bowl Sunday. America’s “Big Game”. And it usually turns into a big fest for rednecks nationwide to go all “‘mur-a-kin” for their beloved (read: overrated) NFL. Don’t get me wrong. I like football. Casually interested, is what I’d call me. But it’s NOT the best game. It’s among the easiest to understand (”them boys is gotta [...]

Careful Who You Root For
February 2nd, 2008 · 4 Comments
Senator Bill Brady of Bloomington sent out a letter to the editor, I’m assuming to several papers, that the PJS ran this morning. In it, he shows unwavering support for Fred Thompson (pictured, in the outfit we’d all be going back to if he were elected). Thompson is currently back on his yacht in Florida reading [...]

Greatest Redneck Line Ever
February 2nd, 2008 · 4 Comments
Whippin’ through the TV dial on a Saturday, and I stumble across “Redneck Weddings” on CMT. This show is like the proverbial trainwreck: you don’t want to watch but once you start you can’t take your eyes off it.
The groom, after mattress surfing behind a four-wheel ATV, and the wife, after mud wrestling in her [...]
