I’ve heard this at least three times now since Ray LaHood announced his retirement. Announcers will be talking about the 18th District and casually mention how convoluted “Lane Evans’ 17th District” is. I heard my friend Dan DiOrio reference it Friday morning, and the insinuation was the 17th was drawn so strangely solely because of [...]

I Have A Huge Idea
July 29th, 2007 · 7 Comments
We tried to attend a movie at Rave Motion Pictures last night. We love the theatre, have been big fans since it opened. But last night we had to walk out. Was it the fault of the theatre? Of course not, it was the fault of the inconsiderate, arrogant, asinine women (mother and daughter) behind [...]

Isn’t This Discriminatory In Some Way?
July 27th, 2007 · 8 Comments
I saw this ad at pjstar.com tonight:
Professional/Technical
WPEO Christian Radio Assistant to the Manager/Community Relations Director
As some may know, I’m in the business of radio, so I always read these kinds of ads to see what other stations are looking for, and sometimes if I’ve got a buddy looking for work I can direct them [...]
Interestingly, We Didn’t Hear The Part About the Supreme Court From Faux News.
July 25th, 2007 · 1 Comment
I’ve about run out of patience with the latest “talking point” from the right. To wit:”Congress has even lower approval ratings than the President.”
First of all…Duh. Congress almost ALWAYS has lower approval ratings than the President, no matter who it is. Why? Because people always say “congress is doing a bad job…well, all of ‘em [...]

Wha?!?!?
July 24th, 2007 · 1 Comment
I just watched a reporter on the ABC affiliate in the Quad Cities use the following words in her story about a cropduster accident in Prophetstown:
“…he was shooken up…” That’s right, she said “shooken”. Amazing.
Then, not two sentences later, it was this:
“…nodoubtably…” Not “undoubtedly”, but “nodoubtably”. Wow.
This was the same station that used the words [...]

NBA Ref May Have Bet On Games He Worked.
July 24th, 2007 · No Comments
This is not good.
My head tells me this is worse than the steroids in baseball, but my heart tells me steroids are still worse. An NBA ref maybe affecting the spread of a game is certainly not a good thing, but when the league has spent the last 20 years manipulating the draft lottery (I have [...]

Vick Ordered To Stay Away From Training Camp
July 24th, 2007 · No Comments
Michael Vick has been told by the NFL to stay away from the Atlanta training camp starting this week. Good.
http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=/nfl/news/ABN4092642.htm
I’m not privy to Roger Goodell’s thinking on this, of course, but I’m going to guess that there was some fears that Vick may have tried to bet on fights between offensive and defensive lineman during [...]

Now I’m Going To See It
July 24th, 2007 · No Comments
Â
So, I’ve just finished my second review of “I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry”. Both reviews trashed the movie mercilessly. Words like “sophomoric”, “imbecilic”, “offensive”, “alleged comedy” and “highly suspect premise”.
Um, yeah, it’s A-D-A-M S-A-N-D-L-E-R. I get a kick out of Sandler, but to the best of my recollection I’ve only ever paid to see [...]

I’m Starting To Worry About Abuse Of Power Around Here
July 19th, 2007 · 2 Comments
So a man in Farmington gets stopped on a riding mower and gets arrested for driving on revoked license. Driving what?
Then, in the comments section, there’s a bunch of “hang ‘im”-type responses, calling the man a drunk and a menace. He may be those things, (his license was revoked for DUI), but on this day he [...]

Bonds Is A Cheater. It Matters Not If He’s Black, White, Magenta, or Burgundy
July 17th, 2007 · 3 Comments
My response to a racist comment at PJStar.com:
With all due respect, Eric…that’s a bunch of baloney. There were indeed a few morons who tried to and in cases did disrespect Hank Aaron, but they were VASTLY outnumbered by white fans who were happy for him in his chase and eventual overtaking of Babe Ruth.
What Barry [...]

Frustrating Driving Habits, #254, #415 & #179
July 17th, 2007 · No Comments
Donchya just love the guys who drive 52 MPH on a lonely rural two lane highway (not to get specific, but let’s say, Illinois Route 78 between Kewanee and Canton), and then drive the same 52 MPH (or actually sometimes speed up) when going through little map dots where the posted limit is 45 (again, [...]

Another one gets caught. This from the “Moral Majority” party.
Senator Vitter, just another GOP hypocrite
My favorite part of the story:
“Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling.”
Right…you “received” forgiveness from god. An entity that may or may not exist. But be that as it [...]

Convenience Stores Have Funny Names
July 11th, 2007 · 2 Comments
I used to work for Kevin Krause, when he was the owner of the Cedar Rapids Silver Bullets CBA basketball team (yes, it was a reference to Coors, they were a big sponsor). Krause’s family owned the “Kum and Go” franchises of convenience stores in Iowa, and as you might expect, the stores were the [...]

Cal Thomas Nails It. And I Don’t Say That Often.
July 4th, 2007 · 2 Comments
Here is my response to this column by Cal Thomas at pjstar.com today.:Â
What a very fine, heartfelt column from Mr. Thomas, and his fourth and fifth paragraphs say it all. As a Democrat, I myself have felt the wrath of those who call me “anti-American” and a “hater of America”. Quite the contrary. I am one [...]

Paying For Garbage Pickup, Kewanee Style
July 4th, 2007 · No Comments
A lot has been made about garbage on some of the Peoria blogs recently. I’d link to a recent post from the blogfather’s site, but there seems to be a void in his archives when it comes to anything in the last week.
Anyway, here’s Kewanee’s way of doing things:

And no, that’s not a new way to get to work in downtown Peoria.
Let me try to describe the situation here:
“The Law” is on this side—————————Over here, it’s “George W. Bush”.
See the space in between? It’s there because “ne’er the twain shall meet.”
