How come I risk getting a ticket for having grass “exceeding 10 inches” (I think that’s the East Peoria Yard Nazi standard, from when Diane had an office there), but the city/county/state can let weeds grow to two, three, sometimes four feet along the sides of railroad tracks, two lane county roads, and ditches? I was driving alongside a railroad track outside of Kewanee the other evening, and couldn’t see the tracks from 20 feet, because of the weeds growing up alongside them. I’m not sure I could have seen the train if one went by.
How come?

Why do we need to mow ditches and railroad easements?
…and people wonder where all the quail and pheasants have gone to…

Kev – didn’t mean to open up old wounds. Sorry.
Mouse – whooshhhhh!…and the point goes right past you. Where did I say they need to cut it? The point is this: how can a city justify giving a homeowner a ticket when they can do whatever they want? That’s the point. I never said they need to cut their grass, instead I said they need to leave homeowners alone if they can’t get their own home in order. See?

Actually, BJ, the joke is on them. That hollyhock came back this year with a vengence and it appears like it is going to shoot up a dozen or so flowering stems compared to the two it had last year. Talk about givin’ ol’ weedwacko the finger….
